Amadeus launches its Airline Ancillary Services Solution

Amadeus, a provider of IT solutions to the global tourism and travel industry, has recently launched its Airline Ancillary Services Solution using NDC-XML (v1.0) connectivity with United Airlines. The agreement marks the industry’s first NDC-XML solution in the travel agency channel in North America.

With the intentions of living up to its commitment of delivering high-quality merchandising technology solutions to its airline customers and extensive new content to agencies looking to best serve its travelers, this collaboration resulting in Amadeus’ Ancillary Service Solution is now supporting airlines in deploying ancillary services in over 95 markets throughout the world. Almost 60 airlines have already signed on to utilize the merchandising technology, with United becoming the first to do so.

One of the basic features that comes with this launch for Amadeus subscribers in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands is that they can now seamlessly book United’s extra-legroom seats for customers. The ancillary services also allow for the easy booking of United’s Economy Plus seats even after a ticket has already been issued. Other such benefits look to enhance the span of services that travel agencies will be able to offer to their clients as new features are rolled out.

Aleks Popovich, International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Senior Vice President of Financial and Distribution Services, tells Travel Pulse that the association welcomes “the introduction of this NDC 1.0 solution to enhance distribution in the travel agent channel. Technology providers play an important role in moving industry standards forward and unlocking value for airlines and their passengers. We have high expectations that by combining technology and merchandizing capabilities, the Amadeus Ancillary Service Solution will play a leadership role in the evolution of airline distribution.”
